CMWC Comox
We are a non-audition choir for females in the 19 Wing Comox military community. The Canadian Military Wives Choir (CMWC) is a three-part women‘s choir and all members are partners of currently serving Canadian Forces personnel or are currently serving Canadian Forces members. We come together weekly to sing, make new friends, and have fun. The choir is all about support — both vocal and personal. In that kind of environment, it’s amazing how much we can accomplish and how good we can sound!

Comox’s Story
The Canadian Military Wives Choir Comox was founded in January of 2015. The choir originated when former President, Brenda Dunne connected with Musical Director Wendy Nixon Stothert, discussing their mutual interest in spreading the Military Wives Choir movement to the choral-rich Comox Valley. The CMWC Comox was the second of its kind in Canada—formed only eighteen months after the first Canadian Military Wives Choir opened its doors in Ottawa. Military Wives Choirs originated in the UK, and there are now more than eighty choirs worldwide.
Canadian Military Wives Choirs are all female choirs, which aim to support military women through vocal music and camaraderie. Members are closely associated with the military, either by marriage or by occupation, and there is a strong emphasis on friendship and fun. The choir is an independent organization which covers its expenses through membership dues and donations from the local community.
Our main purpose is to create a support network for women in the military community through singing. The nomadic life of the military family means that it can be difficult to put down roots, make friends, and create support networks with each move. The Canadian Military Wives Choir Comox is a creative, fun-filled way for women to support each other through difficult times and to celebrate the successes and good times of each member – all while singing!
Since the first year, the CMWC Comox has grown rapidly. It started with a group of ten; grew to 23 in the second year and now has over 30 members. The choir has had many appearances including performances at the Sid Williams Theatre, the Comox Air Show; Nautical Days; and singing our National Anthem for the BC Lions at BC Place.
We were thrilled and honoured to join with all the CMWCs across Canada to accompany British soprano, Laura Wright singing Invincible at the 2017 Invictus Games Opening Ceremony in Toronto.
